Played on the same high school team as Winston Justice (OT, USC), Mercedes Lewis (TE, UCLA), Hershel Dennis (RB, USC), and Manuel Wright (DT, Dolphins).

Out of high school, Darnell did not qualify for eligibility with the NCAA academically. He attended Long Beach Community College before attending USC.

Bing has favorably drawn comparisons to Pittsburgh Steeler and former teammate Troy Polamalu. Lofty comparisons have been made to John Lynch, Mark Carrier, and even Ronnie Lott. Bing can simply lay the lumber like few safeties in the game of football.
